Trend Alert: Aviators!

Trend Alert: Aviators!

Aviators are a timeless classic - we are all familiar with Tom Cruise’s classic Ray-Ban RB3025 Aviator Sunglasses in Top Gun.

At Pretavoir we have over 2,000 Aviator variations across both glasses and sunglasses - we will definitely have a pair perfect for you!

First, a little bit of history on the iconic frame shape… The first pair of aviators arrived in 1937 with green scientific lenses and were marketed as “Ray-Ban” promising glare protection. The name “aviator” didn’t come into play until the Second World War and became a well-known style of sunglasses when General Douglas MacArthur landed on a beach in the Philippines and newspaper pictures of him wearing them became a lasting image of the war. The aviator soon became a must-have fashion accessory worn by some style icons of the time such as Elvis Presley.

Some of our current favourite aviators are:

One thing to be mindful of when browsing aviators is the frame sizes vary so it is really important to get the right proportion of frames to suit your face. In order to ensure you have the correct, it is best to first check that the bridge of the glasses [the little bit that goes across your nose] sits comfortably on your face. If the bridge is too short, the bridge will be too high on the face. If it is too large, the frames will fall down off your nose. Aviators usually cover your eyebrows, if yours don’t at least partially cover your eyebrows they are probably too small for your face. Also, be careful your eyelashes do not touch the lenses and that should not be able to touch the lenses and the pad arms aren’t too tight on either side of your nose.

Now you have the correct fit, you’re maybe thinking are these the correct style for me? Above you can see Kylie Jenner and Joaquin Phoenix both wearing some classic Ray-ban Aviators and Brie Larson wearing Randolph Aviators which were featured in the Captain Marvel movie! For more inspiration check out the Spring/Summer 2020 runways - these were flooded with this sunglass shape but with unique flares such as coloured lenses, embellished details and innovative frame updates.

Aviators can be quite a strong look, so our main piece of advice is to keep it simple or have fun with it!
