Rosario Toscano and Salma Rachid, the founders of the eyewear company, launched the brand in 2019 with a joint goal of evolving the eyewear market. Toscano alone brought around 20 years of industry experience to the brand name. Together, they decided to base Akoni's manufacturing headquarters in Japan due to the extensive amount of skilled producers and artisans available to them. Valentino x Akoni Glasses

In 2022, the Italian luxury fashion house, Valentino, signed a ten-year license with the Akoni Group for "...the design, manufacture, and distribution of its luxury eyewear collections." This concluded their long relationship with the world's largest eyewear company, Luxottica. Combining the motives and missions of both groups, the new collection features eyewear combining the signature Valentino studs alongside its 'V-logo' while also being produced in Japan and combining the craftsmanship of both brands. Valentino's image aligns greatly with the Akoni group as both brands focus on cutting-edge styles and the opportunity for growth. Valentino's long and profound history, and extensive range of both optical eyewear and sunglasses, prove that creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli understands and appreciates the value and reliability of the Akoni Eyewear Group.
