Spring/Summer 2021 Fashion Week

Spring/Summer 2021 Fashion Week

With Spring/Summer ‘21 fashion shows happening across the world since September - the S/S’21 trends are becoming apparent with fashion season coming to a close in Shanghai this week.

With almost one hundred live catwalk shows, we are watching Shanghai with the greatest FOMO. However, across Europe and America, a vast majority of fashion week went digital like Burberry, Givenchy and Prada who merged a ‘real’ show with an online one presenting their collections for the first time to a digital audience. Victoria Beckham only showed her collection to three visitors at a time, with each guest receiving a VB monogrammed face mask. Salvatore Ferragamo offered a fully augmented reality show via an iPhone compatible glasses and Moschino opted for puppets over models, creating a full catwalk show with marionettes.
We have pulled together some of the eyewear frames that have caught our attention over the last month and are now eagerly awaiting their arrival on the website. In the meantime, we have paired new trends with some current frames that are available now if you just can’t wait.

If you have seen anything yourself that you just gotta get, then send us an email at hello@pretavoir.co.uk or give us a call on +44 141 552 5065. Our team will be more than happy to help source your eyewear or provide you with the relevant information if you’re just that little bit too far ahead of the trend.

Starting with Versace, the Italian fashion house stuck to what it knows best: pure unadulterated glamour. The presentation remained totally captivating and eye catching with classic sexy Versace undertones. Innovatively designed, Versace continues to be bold, modern and powerful through the choice of colour palettes, vamp aesthetics and liquid fabrics. The sunglasses which stole the show for us, were futuristic, vivid and sharp showcasing super fluorescent acetates and strong metal aviator shapes.

If you can’t wait for the new release we’d recommend Gucci’s GG0712S 004 and the Porsche Design 8478 Ps.

As mentioned, Salvatore Ferragamo provided iPhone-compatible, virtual reality, glasses so the attendees to the show could feel they were really there. The creative director, Paul Andrew, wanted to ‘transport everyone to the front row’. Elegant and sophisticated as always, the Italian born brand stuck true to their luxury aesthetic remaining creative and contemporary. Their eyewear offering stuck closely to their classic acetate styles - rounded edges with tortoiseshell and black frames led the way with some pale pastel acetates mixing things up.

If you think these frames belong in your Autumn/Winter wardrobe then we would recommend snapping the style early in either the LOEWE LW40028l 52E and the Gucci GG0811S 003.

Tom Ford was 70’s overload with thick acetate aviator and coloured lenses. The S/S 21 presentation was inspired by 70’s dinner parties filled with flamboyancy and fun - Ford wanted to bring some bright fanciful fashion into this currently quite dull, pessimistic, world.

Lucky for you Tom Ford already has some frames out like the ones featured in their show like the Paul TF778 90V. And if you can’t wait for those exact oversized red frames perhaps these burnt orange LOEWE LW40035l 68Y will do the job.

In striking white, Fendi opened Milan Fashion Week with one of the first, and only, traditional catwalk presentations. Pale lace, chiffon and satin flowed down the runway in front of images and prints taken by Silvia Venturini Fendi from her bedroom during lockdown. Love was a common theme during the fashion show and we loved the eyewear. Some narrow, yet chunky, sunglasses were paired with the mens looks but we were really drawn to the oversized optical aviators.

To recreate the Fendi look we’d recommend the Savile Row 18KT Aviator Glasses in Gold and if you’re more looking for the sunglasses look then perhaps some classic Ray-Ban Justins in model number 4165 Black/Silver Mirror 622/6G.

Burberry’s ‘In Bloom’ fashion show aimed to celebrate the British summer time with symbolic references to regrowth, renewal and the circle of life. Constantly recreating itself, yet staying true to core concepts like the Burberry trench coat, the heritage brand really pushed forward some innovative designs. Classic cottons and denims were tailored into futuristic shapes with interesting prints overlaid onto each layer. The eyewear followed suit with almost an 80s/90s imagining of a sci-fi future.

For a more wearable, everyday look, maybe ic! Berlin Nufenen Medium Gunmetal glasses will give you that vintage sci-fi edge or the Classic Navy Blue Cutler & Gross frames.
