Best Oscars Looks Of All Time - Eyewear Edition

Best Oscars Looks Of All Time - Eyewear Edition

In honour of the 95th annual awards that took place on Sunday night, we have decided to compile a list of the best Oscars looks of all time.

The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, is one the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the World of Film. The annual event celebrates the best achievements in cinema from the previous year, honouring the most outstanding actors, directors, producers, and technical experts the industry has to offer. The ceremony has become an important part of film history, and they continue to inspire and recognise excellence in the film industry year after year.

As it is such a high-profile and glamorous event, the red carpet has become an integral part of the ceremony. As a platform for celebrities to showcase their fashion sense and style, we decided to look at the history behind some of the most iconic looks to grace the most prestigious carpet in entertainment over the years. Let's look at some of the best eyewear we have seen on some of the biggest stars in the industry over the years...

THE BEST OSCARS LOOKS OF ALL TIME...EYEWEAR SPOTLIGHT

SPIKE LEE - 2019

Spike Lee Best Oscars Looks Of All Time

Spike Lee's bold glasses in 2019: The director's signature round eyeglasses were the perfect accessory to his bold purple suit at the 91st Academy Awards. His outfit generated a lot of buzz and was discussed widely in the media as one of the best Oscars looks yet. Lee was nominated best director and confirmed to journalists that he was wearing Ozwald Boateng - a suit featuring a matching hat, glasses, and a necklace with a gold symbol of the African continent. His outfit and style honoured the late Kobe Bryant featuring the purple and gold colours sported by the LA Lakers alongside a custom-made pair of Nike Air Jordan 3's. Lee completing his look with thick acetate purple frames certainly made the outfit. We believe Spike's glasses were from the luxury eyewear brand Alain Mikli. We have linked a very similar pair from the well-respected and highly innovative French eyewear brand, Face a Face if you want to get Spike Lee's look! Check them out here.

DIANE KEATON - 2004

Diane Keaton Best Oscars looks of all time 2004

Diane Keaton's gold-rimmed glasses in 2004: Keaton's signature look wearing a Ralph Lauren suit with wing-tip shoes and an oversized bowler hat gave classy Charlie Chaplin vibes and a nod to her iconic character in the 1978 film Annie Hall. She included gold-rimmed glasses with a brown tint in an oval shape to the 76th Academy Awards that, to this day, made a lasting impression on the fashion world. Fun fact: This outfit sparked a trend of women wearing pantsuits to formal events, remaining an iconic moment in Oscars fashion history. Keaton's iconic frames were designed by LA-founded brand Oliver Peoples - a brand highly sought-after by celebrities. Oliver Peoples is a popular brand at PRET, and we stock various styles. However, the most similar pair we found to Keaton's has got to be the Ray-Ban Oval with the light pink lens.

 MERYL STREEP - 2018

 Meryl Streep Oscars 2019 eyewear

Meryl Streep's timeless frames in 2018: Streep showed class and finesse in 2018 at the 90th Oscars. The actress wore a red gown by Christian Dior Haute Couture, adding Stuart Weitzman heels, along with a Christian Louboutin clutch, Fred Leighton jewellery, and of course, our favourite accessory, her Oliver Peoples x Alain Mikli glasses. Streep's stunning and sophisticated outfit left viewers in awe at her natural beauty, with many comparing her to a fairy godmother figure. Her eyewear choice added a touch of intellectualism to her look. We have linked a similar pair from the luxury house Gucci here.

ELTON JOHN - 2020

Elton John Oscars 2020 eyewear

Elton John's bedazzled glasses in 2020: The musician's bedazzled sunglasses were hard to miss at the 92nd Academy Awards. John wore a stunning and memorable choice of outfit that perfectly reflected his flamboyant and over-the-top style. Picking up his second Oscar for his hit song, Rocketman, he showed and sparkled the crowds in a custom-made purple Gucci suit and his signature glasses with a purple tint that again, were designed by the Italian luxury fashion brand. This unique outfit certainly qualitifies for one of the best Oscars looks to date. As Elton's frames were custom-made, it may be difficult to find an exact duplicate. However, Gucci's Hollywood Forever collection may be as close as you will get. Displaying the ultimate glitz and glamour, check out one of our favourite pairs here.

JACK NICHOLSON - 1976

Jack Nicholson 1976 oscars Ray-Ban aviators

Jack Nicholson's timeless aviators in 1976: "Iconic look" is an understatement on this one, which guarantee's it to qualify for one of the best oscars looks of all time. Jack is definitely one of the greats in Hollywood, and his appearance at the 1976 Oscars is one of the most iconic in history. Often at red-carpet events or even out and about, Nicholson sports dark shades. He wore a pair of his signature Ray-Ban aviators to the 45th Academy Awards and picked up an Oscar for his role in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Nicholson usually wears Serengeti, Ray-Ban, and Persol - just some of the top brands that we stock. Fred Astaire convinced Jack to practice being ‘cool’ and to be the epitome of cool, so Jack donned his glasses, and we think he has definitely ticked that box on being the king of cool. Shop Jack's famous aviators here!

KATE WINSLET - 2016

Kate Winslet wearing glasses at the Oscars 2016

Kate Winslet's bold and black frames in 2016: The 88th Academy Awards got underway in 2016, and Kate Winslet walked on the red carpet not wearing any glasses but, while presenting, added a new accessory which caused a little online decision-making as to whether people liked them or not. She appeared on the red carpet in a stunning, black strapless gown from Ralph Lauren - a simple yet elegant design with a flowing skirt that fell to the floor. Although we aren't sure of the exact brand of glasses she wore to present, we can confirm that they are timeless frames, and we have extremely similar pairs here at PRET from various brands. THE KARDASHIAN'S - 2022

Kardashian's Oscars After-party in sunglasses

Most recently, the Kardashian's looking ultra-cool at the Vanity Fair after-party 2022: Although they were not in attendance at the Academy Awards, the Kardashian family, along with Travis Barker, attended The Vanity Fair after-party. Kim Kardashian and her sister Kendall Jenner both sported avant-garde frames from Balenciaga as they brought a futuristic touch to the party. Their sister Kourtney also attended the event with her husband, Travis Barker. Barker paired a super sleek black embellished tuxedo with signature Prada Symbole Shades to tie his dapper look together. Overall, the famous family certainly came through for the Oscar's after-party in the shades department. Shop Kim's frames here.
