Celebrity Sunglasses at the 2026 Venice Film Festival

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival returns to the Lido from 2 to 12 September 2026, bringing ten days of world cinema, artistic ambition and, naturally, a particularly well-dressed crowd. This year’s festival opens with the highly anticipated world premiere of Danny Boyle’s Ink, setting the tone for an edition that places independent and international filmmaking firmly in the spotlight. With socially conscious stories, bold creative voices and a distinguished international jury led by filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal, Venice once again proves that cinema can be both a cultural conversation and a very glamorous occasion.

Of course, where there are premieres, there are celebrities. And where there are celebrities, there are sunglasses worth keeping an eye on. From the red carpet to arrivals along the Lido, Pretavoir will be tracking the best celebrity eyewear spotted at the 2026 Venice Film Festival throughout the event, bringing you daily updates on the frames worn by its most stylish attendees. Consider this your front-row seat to Venice, with the sunglasses getting their own share of the spotlight.

PS: This blog is updated from the latest events down to the festival's earliest days.

Opening Ceremony — 2 September

A spectacular fashion as George Clooney received the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, followed by a four-minute standing ovation for the world premiere of Danny Boyle's new film Ink.

President of this year’s Competition Jury, Maggie Gyllenhaal, was seen wearing the iconic black Ray-Ban Wayfarer 2140 901 sunglasses for the Jury photocall.

Being the festival’s opening film, the Ink premiere was certainly a star-studded affair.

Among the celebrity attendees was Jonathan Bailey, who wore black Giorgio Armani AR8253U sunglasses featuring a subtle gold nose bridge. This frame is available to pre-order by contacting the Pretavoir team.

Claire Foy, who stars in Ink, showcased another new Bottega Veneta sunglasses style from the upcoming Fall/Winter 2026 collection, the BV1492S, for the premiere.

Ahead of the premiere, Claire Foy was also spotted wearing the tortoise Bottega Veneta BV1488, another upcoming release from the Italian house.

Both frames are set to arrive at Pretavoir this September, so stay tuned!

Colombian singer J Balvin also walked the red carpet for the Ink premiere, wearing gold Miu Miu MU A56S 5AK90L oversized sunglasses with brown gradient lenses that perfectly suited his cool, laid-back style.

Nicholas Galitzine also attended the premiere of Ink. Having previously starred in an Emporio Armani campaign, it was only fitting that the actor opted for the Italian house for such a prestigious event, wearing black Emporio Armani EA4239U 5017/87 sunglasses featuring its distinctive eagle logo.

Arrivals and Pre-Festival — 1 September

It’s not the Venice Film Festival without the attendance of power couple Amal Clooney and George Clooney. This year is even more special, as George is set to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award.

Looking radiant on the gondola, Amal Clooney wore tortoise Chloé CH0286S 002 oversized sunglasses with brown-green lenses.

Meanwhile, George Clooney opted for his favourite frame from Selima Optique, the Money 2 sunglasses in transparent green with brown-red lenses.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, serving as President of Venezia 83 Competition jury, wore Celine CL40346 32A round sunglasses in gold with grey lenses, a new release for 2026.

Claire Foy, who stars in this year’s opening film Ink, arrived in Venice wearing the latest version of Bottega Veneta’s Knot sunglasses, the BV1513S 001, which will be available to purchase at Pretavoir this September. Stay tuned!

Ink co-star Jack O’Connell was spotted wearing black Prada Linea Rossa SPS 06Y 1AB09U sunglasses ahead of the Opening Night.

German actress Emilia Schüle, who stars in The Girl with the Leica, set to premiere on Opening Day, was seen wearing the new Miu Miu B14SU Ivresse sunglasses in blue.

We currently stock the Miu Miu B14SU sunglasses in red and grey; however, the exact blue colourway worn by Emilia Schüle is available to pre-order by contacting our team.

And, of course, an event of Venice calibre is not complete without a supermodel appearance.

Among the early sightings ahead of Opening Day was Alessandra Ambrosio, who wore black Pucci EP0252 sunglasses. Contact the Pretavoir team for enquiries regarding this style.
