Emmanuelle Khanh
Emmanuelle Khanh, established in 1969 by the visionary Emmanuelle Khanh, transformed the fashion landscape with her avant-garde approach to women's ready-to-wear clothing and accessories. A former model for iconic houses like Balenciaga and Givenchy, Khanh transitioned to fashion design in the early 1960s, envisioning a wardrobe for liberated, modern women. In 1969, she launched her eponymous brand, liberating shapes and materials and revolutionizing fashion.
The brand expanded its influence in 1971 by venturing into eyewear, collaborating with Henri Guillet to create distinctive frames adorned with bold elements like rhinestones and fur. Khanh actively participated in founding the Chambre syndicale des Couturiers et des Créateurs de mode in 1973, advocating for high-end fashion accessible to a broader audience. Opening her first boutique in 1977 on the Left Bank, Khanh diversified the brand with jewellery, hats, gloves, and bags, creating a comprehensive silhouette.
The House of Emmanuelle Khanh received the Knight of Arts and Letters in 1986. After a period of dormancy in the 1990s, the brand re-emerged in 2012, reviving its eyewear with the Heritage collection. In 2016, Eva Gaumé became Artistic and Image Director, infusing new life into the brand with oversized frames for women and a tailored line for men.
Celebrating 50 years in 2019, Emmanuelle Khanh introduced a new monogram and debuted its first men's eyewear collection. The brand, guided by Eva Gaumé, continues to honour its heritage while creating a contemporary fashion vocabulary, reflecting Khanh's enduring spirit of free, feminist elegance that inspires women to embrace strength and style.
