Zdeno Chára (born 18 March 1977) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey defenceman, widely regarded as one of the greatest and most commanding players in NHL history. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches (2.06 m), he is the tallest player to ever play in the league and became known for his powerful slap shot, physical presence, and exceptional leadership. Over a career spanning more than two decades, Chára played for the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, and Washington Capitals, serving as captain of the Bruins for 14 seasons. He led Boston to the 2011 Stanley Cup, cementing his legacy as a defensive powerhouse and respected leader on and off the ice.
Away from hockey, Chára is admired for his discipline, professionalism, and versatility—he is multilingual, a keen cyclist, and an avid supporter of youth and community programmes. His style off the rink is sharp and understated, often complemented by classic eyewear that mirrors his commanding yet approachable personality. From sleek Oakley wraparounds to refined rectangular frames, his eyewear choices add polish to his stature, balancing athletic strength with a sense of European sophistication.
