The first Oliver Peoples boutique opened in 1987 on Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles. Larry Leight, the founding designer, has created a collection of retro-inspired sunglasses. They have become a fashion obsession in his native home of Los Angeles. The collection uses the finest Italian Mazzuchelli acetate to produce beautiful colours such as cocobolo and carreto tortoise. The highest-quality Japanese titanium brings strength, as well as lightweight qualities, to sunglass models such as Benedict and Kempner. The frames feature the finest crystal glass lenses and come with a vintage-inspired Oliver Peoples case and cloth.
Larry Leight's Vision Results In Oliver Peoples Sunglasses
The original collection took inspiration from an auction lot that Larry Leight learned was about to go under the hammer. Following the purchase, Larry underwent an almost epiphany of creativity. So strong was the inspiration felt upon delving through the treasure trove of vintage sunglasses. These frames were marked 'Oliver People'...the brand was born. Larry sold these frames in the original shop, and such was the demand. It was only natural that he would go on to create inspired pieces himself. Larry now obsesses over every aspect of his sunglass collection.
As a trained optician, he takes a technical interest in the quality of sunglass lenses and prefers the finest German UV filters manufactured by Carl Zeiss. Most of these lenses have a back surface anti-reflection coating, which is important in minimising glare, and many sunglass models have a polarising lens option.
