Wimbledon 2022: Day One
Wimbledon 2022
Yes, it is that time of year again. Wimbledon.
And while the tennis may be the main event, at PRET A VOIR we're all about eyewear-spotting.
We treat large-scale of events like this as a great spectator sport: What sunglasses are the royals wearing? What celebrity has nailed that in the green stand look? And who's sunglasses are perhaps protecting them from one too many Pimms..
The Wimbledon Championships 2022 will be the 135th time the competition has been held and will run from Monday the 27th June 2022 until Sunday the 10th July 2022.
As the two-week tournament is underway, we will be reporting on this highly anticipated British Summer Time event; perhaps not the scores but on glasses & sunglasses of the A-list attendees descending on SW19.
Wimbledon Sunglasses
Wimbledon is renowned for the celebrity-style from courtside shirt dresses to Ray-Ban's in the Royal Box. The world comes out in force to show their support for their favourite tennis players.
One of our favourite looks is TV-Presenter, Rochelle Humes in Bottega Veneta Sunglasses. Her Wimbledon style is chic, classic and perfect for the British Summer.
The Glossy Black Bottega Veneta BV1035S 001 Cat Eye Sunglasses with gold hinge detailing and grey lenses are an extremely popular frame in our collection. Cat eye frames are a great sunglasses shape for a variety of people due to the way the frame compliments facial features at slightly different widths. Bottega Veneta's design really plays into Rochelle's facial structure and sits perfectly on her high cheekbones.
Rochelle's husband Marvin was not far off her serve wearing Ray-Ban Sunglasses. Marvin Humes is wearing Soft Round 'Turtledove' beige Ray-Ban RB 2180 6166/13 Sunglasses with brown gradient lenses.
The light colour of the frame is RB2180 Sunglasses make them the perfect Summer accessory. They are not too over the top for centre court and instead compliment Marvin's grey suit.
Day-time TV's favourite duo, 'This Mornings' Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, both wore Ray-Ban New Wayfarers. Much like the classic wayfarer sunglasses, Ray-Ban's new wayfarers stick to the brand's 1950s roots.
However, there are some key noticeable differences with the new style: they have a larger lenses, narrower frame heights and overall show a more modern look.
Holly Willoughby pairs her Ray-Ban Wayfarer 2140 901 Black Sunglasses with a Summery pink and white midi dress and Phillip Schofield pairs his navy blue suit and shirt with Black Full Rim Ray-Ban New Wayfarer RB 2132 901 Sunglasses With Green Lenses.
In our opinion, Stacey Dooley's look is a grand slam. Well in the Wimbledon fashion sense... The TV presenter pairs a hot pink Jacquemus shirt and black leather trousers with a pair of LOEWE x Paula's Ibiza LW40033I 01A Sunglasses. These sunglasses were part of the limited edition 2020 release which as been worn by the likes of Rhianna.
The oversized chunky black acetate frame is a total show-stopper and really elevates any summer dress into a more high-fashion look.
Wimbledon Glasses
Now, glasses are a must if you're trying to keep up with the tennis tournament. There is no use squinting and staring at the wrong end of the court if you're there to watch some of the best players in the world such as Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray.
So besides the practical need for prescription lenses, lets let the A-listers inspire our Wimbledon dress code this Summer.
Strictly Come Dancing's Kevin Clifton attended the first day of Wimbledon with partner Stacey. And although his look was much less daring, he paired some Cutler & Gross glasses with his stylish ensemble.
Kevin is wearing Dark Turtle Acetate Cutler and Gross 1362 02 Classic Rectangle Glasses which stand out against his white top and tan trousers. The dark turtle acetate is a signature colour for the Cutler & Gross brand, it provides a truly luxurious finish which is hard to miss.
Author and Pointless & House of Games host, Richard Osman also opts for Cutler and Gross. The eyewear brand may be the designer of choice for many at the sporting event due to their reputation as the ‘Savile Row tailor’ of the eyewear industry.
There are not many independent British eyewear brands as highly regarded as Cutler and Gross. Which can be seen through the exquisite materials of Richard's Cutler and Gross 0692 Dark Turtle Glasses. Every frame by Cutler & Gross is unique and meticulously handcrafted by some of the world’s most talented eyewear artisans.
Hopefully we will have more Summer looks from mini dresses and matching sunglasses to suits, specs and the singles final. Oh, and of course incredible performances from the likes of Serena Williams & Novak Djokovic...
