Sustainability

Glasses are so much more than a necessity, they are a much-beloved fashion accessory. However, the world has a shopping problem and we constantly feel the need to keep up with the latest trends when it comes to fashion accessories.

The best way for companies to meet demand but also cut down on their environmental impact is to move towards sustainable solutions such as designing with long-lasting, high-quality materials and designing with sustainability in mind. In this blog post, we are going to spend some time speaking about Stella McCartney and Free From Green who are just a couple of the stand out brands we stock when it comes to sustainability in design.

However, when shopping on PRET A VOIR, you can rest assured all our glasses and sunglasses will last you way longer than a season - all of the brands we stock use high-quality materials and innovative design processes which make each pair of glasses long-lasting and durable. Plus, all our frames are covered by an international 24-month warranty so no need to worry about replacing them!

STELLA MCCARTNEY
The Stella McCartney eyewear range is comprised of eco-friendly castor-oil sunglasses (in place of most brands' use of petroleum when manufacturing acetate frames), as well as promoting renewable energy in her sunglasses manufacturing process.

Stella McCartney’s latest collection of sunglasses and glasses introduce a new eco-friendly material called ‘bio-acetate’ that is both of natural origin and renewable resources. This material is made without the use of fossil fuels and instead replaces the harmful Diethyl Phthalate, derived from petroleum, with innovative bio-based plasticisers. Stella McCartney’s bio-acetate is made from responsibly-harvested natural wood pulp which is both renewable and biodegradable.
The team at Stella McCartney has also pledged to make sure that 100% of its plastic can be easily and safely reused, recycled or composted by 2025.
Sunglasses are especially necessary for the Summer months due to the sun being out longer which in turn exposes you to strong UV rays longer which can damage the light-sensitive receptors your eye. Sunglasses play an integral part in protecting your eyes from these rays making sunglasses a lot more than just a fashion accessory! However, many of us opt for cheaper sunglasses which provide limited protection against UV rays and barely last the summer. At PRET A VOIR, all our prescription and non-prescription sunglasses offer full UV protection and conform to all International Standards.

FREE FORM GREEN
FREE FORM Green glasses collection offers the ultimate green concept eyewear created by Thomas Trauth in Germany. FREE FORM Green glasses are made from sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable materials and are a brand who are truly environment-friendly. Using only the necessary material minimizes the brand’s waste meanwhile releasing absolutely no toxic materials during production. Their production requires much fewer steps compared to other eyewear retailers making the eyewear brand one of the first optical brands completely designed to minimise the carbon footprint.

Each frame is designed with functionality and ergonomics in mind, therefore, is completely free of screws to provide the highest level of comfort to the wearer and they use the lightest sheet metal for the glasses frame making these glasses practically featherweight.

While most people wear glasses to correct vision problems, it is now very popular for people to wear non-prescription frames as a fashion accessory. Either way, if you’re concerned about your carbon footprint when renewing your prescription or shopping the latest trends these are two brands that are a great option to stay ethical while shopping!

If you have any questions about any of our brands then please contact us at hello@pretavoir.co.uk or call us on 0141 552 5065 and our customer service team will be more than happy to advise you!
