Philippe Starck was born on January 18, 1949, in Paris, to André Starck (airplane designer) and Jacqueline Lanourisse. He studied at Notre Dame de Saint-Croix in Neuilly-sur-Seine, then in the Nissim de Camondo school in Paris.
He receives all the prizes and awards in France, the United States and Italy: designer of the year, Grand Prix for Industrial Design, the Oscar for Design, Officier des Arts et des Lettres, and many more.
Present always and everywhere, he wants to understand our dreams, our desires, our needs, while awakening our responsibility to the future. He declares himself an as well the overriding need to respect his fellow citizens by making his work a political and a civic act.
A wild-eyed genius, but also terribly lucid, he designs continuously, out of necessity, driven by a sense of urgency, for himself and for others. He touches us through his work, which is fine and intelligent indeed, but most of all touches us because he puts his heart into that work, creating objects that are good even before being beautiful |
